Hello,

I am looking for stackable lens tubes, rings, lock nuts, spacers for
M12-0.5 thread (often used on webcams). Something similar to Thorlabs
0.5 inch tube hardware shown here:

http://www.thorlabs.com/NewGroupPage9.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=1521

Does not have to be metal.

I have Google searched many different word combinations. Nothing I have
tried worked in any useful way.

Custom made is an obvious but expensive option. I am looking for small
quantities off-the-shelf as needed.

Any sources to suggest?

I have custom made these, but they are indeed very expensive that way, as
shown here about 2/3rds the way down:

http://www.truetex.com/micad.htm

Despite the wide use of M12x0.5 in Web cams, I have yet to locate any
supplier of stock componentry such as you suggest.

Have you considered using an adapter from the M12-0.5 thread to the Thorlabs
lens tubes? Perhaps Thorlabs does or would make such an adapter.

You could probably improvise many of the parts you need by chopping up cheap webcam lenses and[/quote]
mounts.

Hello Richard,

Thanx for the reply.

I see your M12-0.5 adapters and extensions. Nice work. What selling
price for the M12-0.5 parts? Maybe better off list since this may be
going afield of optics.

I have a Sherline 5410 CNC mill and a Sherline 4400 manual lathe. If I
get desperate I will make the parts myself. However, the time involved
will make them far more expensive than anything that is already mass
produced.

One respondent pointed me to http://www.ukaoptics.com/ . UKA Optics
webpages show various M12-0.5 parts as well as taps and dies. However,
they don>t respond to my emails so I have no price info and cannot place
an order.

The two parts shown totaled $250 as custom quantity-1 items. You could get
them made for about $10/each if you ordered 100 or so.

Enco sells an M12x0.5 tap for about $10:

http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PMAKA=319-5883

However this is plug tap not a bottoming, and they do not have a die in
this size. Nor do MSC or Mcmaster, apparently.

But we typically use single-point threading on the lathe instead of taps
and dies. Optical assemblies tend to feature unusual pitch/size
combinations that are just not to be had any other way.
