Preliminary 5.8 in Chino Hills area... felt much stronger
than that unless due to directionality.
Had some stuff fall.
Had a couple seconds of p waves rising to a good crescendo
[just had an aftershock]
then the rolling S waves for a good 10 seconds.
more later....

Very interesting. I had been suspicious of the magnitude and
figured it was at least a 6. But now, looking at the shake
maps...
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/shakemap/sc/shake/14383980/
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/pager/events/ci/14383980/index.html
.... there is a pocket of higher readings in my area. Most
notably, on the PAGER maps, Stanton is singled out.

I do not recall any specific predictions for this area. There

Hi guys... I haven>t chimed in here in a loooong time. I just happened
to be in the Valley today (took my 85 year old dad to the Sepulveda VA
clinic), so I was there for this shaker. We were on the second floor.
It was a rolling motion, not jerky at all where we were. Just as it
seemed to be going on a little too long for my comfort it stopped. (I
was so proud of myself for not running out of the building and into
the parking lot, as I probably would have done a few years
back ...Sylmar and Northridge veteran here!)
Drove back to Tehachapi (about 160 or so frwy miles away) and some
folks in town (flat valley area) said they felt it, and most the
neighbors we talked to here in Bear Valley (bedrock mountains) did not
feel it.
Just thought I would check in... I started checking into this
newsgroup after the 94 Northridge quake, and at that time I considered
the info here to be my solid rock!

I had a ride like that, though not likely as strong, back last spring when
the Wabash Valley fault slipped here in the Midwest. The interesting thing
about that one was that I could actually hear a roar wash through the
neighborhood when it struck (I>ve been through a couple here, but nothing
like that one). At first I thought it was a wind from a storm because the
ceiling was creaking, but then there was a strong jolt, a roar, and then
about 30 seconds of back and forth movement (I assume the first to be the
P-wave, and the second to be the s-wave). I>m glad to hear that you are ok.
Keep safe.
