The Senate and House turns down the Big Three automakers, but "the
government" gives Citigroup an additional 20 billion on top of the 25
billion they already gave them. If anyone has done any business with
Citigroup, they probably know what a screwed-up company they are.

(( I was under the impression that Congress was asking for a detailed
plan from them before they gave them money))

That>s exactly right. I wonder if the execs will cut back on some of
their "perks," like airplanes.

(( I wish Congress had made those demands of the banks))

I swear I thought the politicians turned down the original bailout
because there were no safeguards in it. From what I>m reading,
Paulson just ignored what Congress wanted in the TARP and is doing
what he said he>d do in his original three-page request. No strings
attached, nothing!

I just heard on the news that the housing industry is the latest to
ask for a bailout.
Does the government have enough tax money to pay for all these
billions, even if they call them loans?

Are they actually letting the automakers go under? I was under the
impression that Congress was asking for a detailed plan from them before
they gave them money, but I haven>t read as much news in the last couple of
days as usual. I wish Congress had made those demands of the banks, though!
Honestly, I think I>d rather see the automakers get help than the $700
billion handout they gave the banks. Then again, I have several family
members working in the auto industry, so I may be biased.

I have to be fair and say that Citigroup has been very good to me. They>re
not my primary bank, but I do business with them, and they>ve always been
terrific. I>ve heard a lot of bad things about them but have never had that
experience myself. That doesn>t mean they should get a handout, though!

I guess my post was not very clear. The House did ask for a plan, but my
point was that there was no (or very little) plan asked for the Citibank
bailout.

Yeah, and that sucks. :-( I can>t help but wonder how many members of
Congress have their fingers in the banking pies.
