Hi,
What is the storage format for video surveillance solutions? Is it
MPEG2 or H.264 or something open?

Personally I>d use H.264 as its superior code effectively removes most

Whoever would use MPEG2 is a dumbass.

Let me clarify my question...
Is there a standard encoding used by most commercial video
surveillance solutions today?

Now we>re gettin' somewhere. Unfortunetaly, you ain>t gettin a
straight answer, 'cuz I don>t do surveillance. But I can tell you that
no serious firm utilizes MPEG2 anymore. A tweaked build of MPEG 4-10
(H264) is the most probable. I can>t validate this but it>s possible
that standards primarily built for surveillance and conference videos
may also be in practice, (keywords: Pulsent and Euclid technologies.)

No. But the universe of formats used is not large.

You can answer this question to your satisfaction by using Google to
get specs on surveillance cameras. Start by looking at Sony, Axis,
Linksys, Cisco, D-Link, Atrix, and look at the formats their cameras
produce.

Also look at DVRs for the same information.
