Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe
costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters..

A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The
Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas
as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict,
mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.
The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to
the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and
secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global
stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to
its contents.

So much for governmental integrity...... several years back they predicted

be under water by now due to globalwarming melting the polar ice caps!

You can>t challenge them, they base their predictions on the best scientific

They say.

when did you read that ;-)

hey, you really made me get out that old record by Robert Fripp
("Network"), with Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel in "Here comes the flood"
(recorded in 1978!) , and with the taped voice of J G Bennett saying
almost exactly what you wrote above in "Water Music 1": the oceans will
rise, and many cities will be flooded, like London, Calcutta and so
on...

But the age of this record doesn>t make the warning itself less
worrying.

It was not at all funny when the flood came here 18 months ago, higher
than it had been for hundreds of years, perhaps higher than ever. We
were lucky enough down here with only little damage done, but higher up
the river Elbe the amount of destruction was incredible, whole houses
were literally swept away by the torrents. It makes us feel different
about these warnings - the exact time they foresay may not be accurate,
but winters are definitely no longer what they used to be in my
childhood. (Even if they are still horrid from a *British* point of
view, you gulfstream-spoilt islanders, you ;-)

The Gulfstream isn>t helping much today... clouds since Monday with no sun
and wind howling from the northeast off the ocean at about 35-40 mph (
wind-chill at 32F, 0c) makes a miserable life when you>re accustomed to
70F- 100F temps. I for one can hardly wait for warmer weather! (As someone

NZ is supposedly raining all over at the moment. Talk about 'The Land Of The
Long White Cloud'!!! It>s actually a dirty grey cloud and doesn>t look like
going away any time soon. The weather reader on tv said we can pretty much
kiss summer goodbye as Autumn officially starts on Monday. The ducks are
swimming about in the neighbours lower paddock and one of our goldfish was
swimming about in the garden around the fish pond.

I haven>t seen much of the chooks all day. I fed them in their house and
apart from a brief outing into the back yard between heavier rain falls,
they>ve been conspicuous by their absence.

The media in NZ have been very conscientious of warning the public just how
at risk they are from the sun this year (due to the ozone hole and uv rays
getting through) and now all this extreme weather in the other direction.
The neighbours dog has had to have doggy sunblock on her nose and now the
chickens are learning to paddle.

I just went out to see how they>re doing and were all in the throes of
roosting for the evening. Rather early for them but if I was a chook, I>d be
doing the same.
Doris' babies hide under her feathers and poke their heads out which gives
the impression of a several headed chook. Worth a photo next time I think.
They>re all looking slightly damp and bedraggled except for the 8 younger
ones. Luckily it>s not cold, just wet and their house is nice and dry. I
love that quiet 'book book boooook' noise they make when they>re settled for
the night.

I hope this nasty spell of wet and wind doesn>t bring any more grief to
those who have already had more than their share of it.

Hi, Jill!
After many years of trying to blame global warming on buring of fossil
fuels, there are scientists who admit that it "could" be caused by the
changing waistline of the earth. Its midline bulge is growing. How
nice. Middle age for the earth! It>s my opinion that she is alive
and well and just going through natural changes. We just don>t like
change. And like to blame one another for things we cannot control.
Sort of like the kings of old being to blame for bad crops.
I really dislike the extremes of temperature, but may have to get used
to it, same as everyone else.
I get tired of Winter about this time of year.
The geese are forever hopeful, though, bringing their first eggs about
Valentine>s Day. Need to catch that predator, though! One raccoon
down, ? to go.

I can>t imagine -5C ! It has cooled down considerably, but yesterday[/quote]
