<
<
It is fact -- not fiction -- that Immanuel Velikovsky
will forever rank as one of the most brilliant scientists
of the 20th century, actually an investigative reporter
if there ever was one.
<
Velikovsky didn>t have the foggiest notion, when launching
his original research, that it would eventually lead to his
pair of mind-boggling books, "Worlds in Collision" and
"Earth in Upheaval."
<
It was simply a case of one thing leading to another.
<
Velikovsky did not manufacture the important pieces
of an incredible puzzle while on his factfinding mission
over the expanse of many years. They were painstakingly
collected piece by piece and bit by bit from the pages
of dusty old scientific and historical literature, in various
languages, that quite probably hadn>t been read in years.
<
It was ALL there -- facts and evidence compiled by honest
scientists for centuries -- based on their intensive study
of the mysteries both of man and earth but conveniently
ignored. And all Velikovsky did was fit the pieces of the
puzzle together to produce a paradigm-shattering package.
<
It eventually told a story that was far different and incredibly
more violent that the tiptoe-thu-the-tulips smooth-sailing
voyage of the Planet Earth that Scientific Establishment had
been shoving down the people>s throat for many a decade.
<
Velikovsky uncovered evidence of horrendous geological
disturbances -- catastrophes -- that occurred many more times
than once and brought mankind to its knees, and he wasn>t
afraid to say it.
<
An invesigative reporter, but much more than that, Velikovsky
recognized his duty to question "evidence," to ask questions,
to question answers, to ask new questions, to question those
new answers.
<
His duty was to determine if the so-called "evidence" presented
as gospel by the Scientific Establishment was truly evidence, or
simply a compulation of many men>s imagination.
<
When answers did not match the facts and the physical
evidence, Velikovsky had the courage to say so. And, of course,
the scientific community didn>t like it and resorted to
every dirty tactic to make him look like a nitwit and a boob.
<
It was so unfair, their misdeeds of gigantic proportions
to a true scientist whose bags none of them -- or together --
they could even begin to carry.
<
Velikovsky, you see, did not launch his historical research
with a chip of any kind on his shoulder. He simply felt he
did what he had to do -- pushing forward with patience, integrity,
perseverence and intestinal fortitude -- and then, only then,
did his findings confirm beyond any reasonable doubt that the
Scientific Establishment wanted NO part of facts and physical
evidence, as it vigorously detests even today.
<
If there was any justice, the Pseudoscientific Community
should>ve been thrown on its ears a half-centry ago.
<
It is a matter of current record -- Thank You, Google -- that
members of a feather-bedding, vested-interest, see-how-smart-I-am
Pseudoscientific Establishment still have quite a chip on their
shoulder in fruitless defense of their factless, facetious theories.
<
Fifty years later, sad to say, that tiny wooden chip has grown
to the size of a Sequoia.

Wilton Krogman, one of the world>s foremost experts
on human anatomy, holds what he had identified as
a petrified human calvarium, a skull with the eye
sockets broken off, that was discovered between
Pennsylvania>s anthracite veins. He is shown at his
desk at the Cooper Clinic in Lancaster, Pa., where
moments later he beckoned a colleague -- a medical
doctor -- to examine "the oldest human skull ever
found."

A CATscan was performed on this specimen with
favorable results.

Meanwhile, Haversian canals were identified in the
cell structue, the tell-tale sign of bone. And dried
blood was found on the specimen during testing at
American Medical Laboratories in Chantilly, Va.

This is the official report from AML which had
erformed Calculus Analysis by Crystallography.
The final report, dated April 21, 2000, was issued
by Dr. Nathan Sherman, director of laboratories.

"The specimen consists of 1 irregularly
shaped, brown calculus weighing less
than 0.0010 grams and measuring 1X1X0.5
mm. No nidus is observed. The calculi
indicates a composition of dried blood
intermingled with a few small crystals
resembling calcium oxalate dihydrate."

edconrad@verizon.net> wrote, "The Vindication
of Velikovsky," and now adds some fuel to the
fire of the Scientific Establishment>s deceit,
deception, collusion and conspiracy that was
used to slander a good man>s name:
<
In 1963, the editors of American Behavioral Scientist
magazine were convinced of the merits of Dr. Immanuel
Velikovsky>s science -- contained in "Worlds in Collision"
and "Earth in Upheaval," published in the early 1950s --
and were aware of the mushroom cloud of denial that
had been generated from within the scientific community.
<
The editors considered these events to be of major
importance to the history of science.
<
Therefore, they displayed tremendous courage by devoting
their September 1963 issue to defending Velikovsky.
<
It contained three papers dealing with the Velikovsky
controversy -- by Ralph Juergens, Livio Stecchini and
publisher Alfred de Grazia, as well as a paper submitted
by Velikovsky himself.
<
Three years later -- in 1966 -- this edition of American
Behavioral Scientist wound up as a hard-cover book entitled
"The Velikovsky Affair: The Warfare of Science and Scientism,"
edited by de Grazia and published by University Books Inc.,
New Hyde Park, N.Y.
<
~~~~
"THE VELIKOVSKY AFFAIR"
Foreward
(By Alfred de Grazia)
In 1950, a book called "Worlds in Collision," by Dr.
Immanuel Velikovsky, gave rise to a controversy in scientific
and intellectual circles about scientific theories and
the sociology of science.
<
Dr. Velikovsky>s historical and cosmological concepts,
bolstered by his acknowledged scholarship, constituted
a formidable assault on certain established theories
of astronomy, geology and historical biology, and on
the heroes of those sciences.
Newton, himself, and Darwin were being challenged, and
indeed the general orthodoxy of an ordered universe.
The substance of Velikovsky>s ideas is briefly presented
in the first chapter of this book.
What must be called the scientific establishment rose
in arms, not only against th new Velikovsky theories
but against the man himself. Efforts were made to block
dissemination of Dr. Velikovsky>s ideas, and even to punish
supporters of his investigations.
Universities, scientific societies, publishing houses,
the popular press > were approached and threatened;
social pressures and professional sanctions were invoked
to control public opinion.
There is no doubt that in a totalitarian society, not only
would Dr. Velikovsky>s reputation have been at stake, but
also his right to pursue his inquiry, and perhaps his own
personal safety.
<
As it was, the "establishment" succeeded in building
a wall of unfavorable sentiment around him: to thousands
of scholars the name of Velikovsky bears the taint of fantasy,
science-fiction and publicity.
<
He could not be suppressed entirely. In the next few years
Velikovsky published three more books. He carried on a large
correspondence. And he was helped by friends and by a large
general public composed of persons outside the establishments
of science.
<
The probings of spacecraft tended to confirm -- never to
disprove -- his arguments.
<
Eventually, the venomous aspects of the controversy,
the efforts at suppression, the campaign of vilification
loomed almost as large, in their consequences to science,
as the original issue.
Social scientists, who had been generally aware of Dr.
Velikovsky>s work, now found themselves in the thick
of the conflict.
<
The involvement of the social and behavioral sciences in the
scientific theories of Velikovsky was higher than had been earlier
appreciated.
<
The social sciences are the basis of Velikvsky>s work: despite
his proficiency in the natural sciences, it is by the use
of the methodology of social science that Velikovsky launched
his challenge to accepted cosmological theories.
<
No one pretends that this method is adequate. New forms of
interdisciplinary research are needed to wed -- for example,
the study of myth with the study of meteorities.
<
Nor does one have to agree that Velikovsky is the greatest
technician of mythology, even while granting his great
conceptual and synthesizing powers.
<
Whatever the scientific substance, the controversy inself
could not be avoided or dismissed by behavioral science.
<
The problem of science is one of the agitating problems
of the twentieth century. The issues are clear: Who
determines scientific truth?
Who are its high priests, and what is their warrant?
How do they establish their canons? What effects do
they have on the freedom of inquiry, and on public interest?
In the end, some judgment must be passed upon the behavior
of the scientific world and, if adverse, some remedies must
be proposed . . .
<
It is our hope that the publication of these papers in the present
volume (a revised and enlarged version) will make it less easy
for Velikovsky>s new work to be suppressed, or lightly dismissed.
<
We hope, too, that they will help scientists and interested
laymen everywhere to rehearse the problems and to reform
the errors of the vast enterprise of science.
