A list of the top-selling online scientific books
including those in evolution and paleontology has been compiled at

http://www.jupiterscientific.org/sciinfo/bestbooks.html

Readers of this newsgroup should find this information useful
in selecting a good science book as a gift for the holiday season.

I gotta say as a lay-person that most of these titles look depressingly
old/tired/boring/newage-physics/pap-for-the-masses. Here are a few I>ve
read that were enjoyable:

Lawrence W. Cheek
A. D. 1250, Ancient Peoples of the Southwest

Elenore Smith Bowen
Return to Laughter
{anthropology}

Robert T. Bakker
The Dinosaur Heresies
{paleontology}

John R. Horner
Dinosaur Lives
Digging Dinosaurs
{paleontology}

Jeffrey H. Schwartz
What the Bones Tell Us
{anthropology}

Ernst Mayr
The Growth of Biological Thought
{biology}

Darwin
The Voyage of the Beagle
{history,biology}

David Quammen
The SONG OF THE DODO: ISLAND BIOGEOGRAPHY IN AN AGE OF EXTINCTIONS
{biology}

Jared Diamond
The Third Chimpanzee
{anthropology}

Douglas Futuyma
Evolutionary Biology
{biology}
