|
|
Hi
Have been running my small network using SETIQ as the proxy, and very
happy with the results. However, I have 2 minor problems on which I
would appreciate guidance -
1. How can I enable the "Looking for sweet WUs" feature?
2. Although I am running the U/L results and D/L new WUs manually
I would like to do this automatically overnight.
For the latter I have gone into Q>s <settings/queue server/times> and
set the start time, end time and unticked manual. But nothing seems to
happen. I use dial up, which I assume is launched?

a) Set a password in the GUI Settings / Http Server / Administrative
password
b) http://your_setiqueue_server_machine_name:5517/login.htm
c) Login using 'Admin' for the username
d) Click on 'Settings' & "Click to edit settings"
e) Scroll down to "Look for sweet WUs" and enable it.

Does your machine dialup automaticaly if you just open a browser window
without connecting first..? If it does then SetiQueue ought to connect
automaticaly. There>s a setting in Control Panel somewheres for 'connect
automaticaly' but I>m not running a modem at the moment so I can>t look for

box to 'connect automaticaly' that comes up when you connect manually...

Many thanks for this advice, but can I push for more please?
a) Set a password in the GUI Settings / Http Server / Administrative

Done
b) http://your_setiqueue_server_machine_name:5517/login.htm

I assume this is done via my web browser (MS IE5.5 in my case) while on
line?
c) Login using 'Admin' for the username
Again, my password will be the one I set locally, I assume?

I hope to be joining you broadband users by Christmas using a WiFi ISP
running the 802.11g standard. This is my only option, as my exchange
seems very very low on BT>s ADSL enabling priority list and I am 7 km
from the exchange. I have ruled out 2 way satellite as far too expensive
for a home user (£900 +VAT for equipment and £59.99 per month rental).
Nick
Many thanks for the advice.
I needed to set my auto dial up to active. I had avoided it in the past
as it tried to contact Demon>s Green Romp not the G5 Surftime flat rate
number. This has made me correct the deficiency, and I will try the
auto-upload tonight.

Sorry to post to myself. I followed all your instructions, and it became
obvious what I needed to do. All is now activated. I just need to wait
and see if auto dial completed and sends WU results, etc.
Many thanks
John

Balls, all it does is continue downloading if Berkeley send the SetiQueue a
'sweet WU', ie. a WU with AR > 1.0 ('VHAR') - Most often the next WU is an
ordinary average AR WU anyway - it>s very rare you get a whole bunch of
them. How is that contrary to the spirit of the project..? There is no
way to specificaly search for VHARs alone unless you deleted everything else
& that is a no-no I agree - there>s no way to setup SetiQueue to do it...

Agreed!!
Having just downloaded an inordinate number of VLARs (32 in the last 60
WUs), I think a little redress is useful. However, this is a feature in
Q that may work, assuming your d/l timing puts the player close to a
concentration of HAR or VHAR WUs. It is the luck of the draw.
If you really want to move contrary to the spirit, then when the d/l is
complete all the WUs should be inspected and VLARs and LAR WUs rejected.
Then the d/l recommenced until there is none. Now that is against the
spirit.

Rectangular parallelepipeds.
What a bunch of piss-ass baby-whining. Just process the WUs as they
come. Do you guys think you>re special or something that you should
process only 'fast' ones? |

.... besides, the VLARs might be more likely to detect an
ETI signal.
