|

Sometimes while I>m changing channels I>ll accidentally lock onto
one of the several hundred fictional crime drama series and there
will be some Dr. Phil-like "forensic psychologist" who looks at a
few physical clues and uses them to re-create the killer>s mind
and provide clues to his identity and motives.
And here on Usenet recently there was someone purporting to be a
professional criminal profiler and who claimed that serial killers
or sexual predators will go to any length to gain access to their
preferred victims, including their choices of careers (e.g., a
child molester would become a teacher, a prostitute-killer might
become a truck driver, etc.). So I thought about it and I decided
that the perfect career would be as a forensic psychologist.
It would be the perfect cover, because the forensic psychologist is
an employee of the police department and has full access to their
databases and investigative resources. Potential victims can be
researched using police computers, and contact can be initiated as
part of any investigation without arousing suspicion. Being first
at the crime scene might allow the perpetrator-profiler to explain
any of his DNA or fingerprints found at the scene, and it would be
easy to throw his colleagues off the trail by spouting some numbers
and psychobabble that suggest a 97.406% probability of the killer
being a six-toed lesbian Eskimo midget with OCD and bulimia, and
only a 0.000352% probability of being a forensic psychologist. |
