Anyone got SetiSpy to run well via Wine?
I have various display and network problems reported as it starts up,
and then it freezes on its first update.
Meanwhile, SetiQueue and the CLI run fine and clean via Wine, including
the internet connections.
Any ideas for a fix for SetiSpy?
(Mandrake 9.1 Linux)

Martin

Alternatively, is KSetiSpy fully compatible to update my existing log files?
The system here is dual booted between Linux and Windoze until I clear
out a few Linux foibles.

Martin,
I have had SetiSpy running under WINE a few years ago. The only problem I
had was some of the text being clipped because I didn>t have the right
font installed on Linux.
I had SetiSpy in its own directory and made symlinks to the S@H files.
I moved to ksetispy soon after but didn>t think to check the logs, so I
have no idea if they are compatible. I couldn>t get ksetispy to work on
RH8.0, even from the sources, so I dropped back the the monitoring in

Are you the Gentoo user that gives their position as 53N 1W ?

This fits with one posting I>ve seen of an early version of SetiSpy
working ok under Wine. Maybe a few too many extra features have been
added since then?...

SetiQueue works fine. I was 'pleasently somewhat surprised' that it
worked straight off without problem.

That>s the newsnet sig after a tussle with a slightly more southerly

Done a lot of compiling. Not played with Gentoo. Will soon be playing
with a few Mandrake recompilings...
Does KSetiSpy keep the same log as SetiSpy?

.... And...
SetiSpy works fine under Wine after all! ...Except when SetiQueue is
started also under Wine. The SetiSpy processes then get put to Sleep.
SetiSpy miraculously returns to life when SetiQueue is exited.
Meanwhile, the s@h CLI continues to do its stuff at low priority.
So why would one Wine process put a second to sleep? (And yet a third
continues unaffected...)
How to work around or fix this?

Martin

Hi,
Couldn>t find any references to "setiaspy". Do you mean "KSetiSpy" ?
Meanwhile, I did find this link which gives a good summary of various
Linux s@h add-ons:
http://seti.amdmbpond.com/linux.php
There is still the question of whether KSetiSpy can work with my
existing SetiSpy files to permit dual booting between Linux and Windoze...?

....To wrap up...
Meanwhile, loading up all the ".dll" files for Windoze95C into a Windows
hierarchy has given greatly improved results.
Looks like SetiQueue + SetiSpy + s@h CLI client all work well together
under Wine in Linux. I can seamlessly dual boot and continue the s@h
crunching unperturbed.
Checking out KSetiSpy, it looks very good for Linux although it hasn>t
seen any updates since Version 0.4.2 - Mar 25, 2002. Hence it doesn>t
include Roelof>s latest enhancements. It is pretty much SetiQueue and
SetiSpy merged into one.
Regarding file compatibility:
http://ksetispy.sourceforge.net/manual/profile-dialog.html
KSetiSpy has the ability to read and write both SETI Spy and SETILog log
files. The SETI Spy log is a single file called setispy.log that
contains information both about the work unit and the returned signals.
The SETILog format is more detailed and comprises two files:
SETILog.csv, which contains work unit data, and SETIResult.log, which
instead stores info about the returned signals.
But note no new versions for over a year.
Now on to explore a few more Linux features!
Good luck for anyone else moving over. There>s some excellent work being
done on the Linux side of things.

Martin
