|

This is probably an easy question for you folks since I am a newbie. But,
it>s getting to be a hard task for me having tried several compression
programs to compress and uncompress at a dos prompt.
So far the best programs that I have found are Cabarc to compress them and
then the Dos Extract tool to extract them. I never seem to get any better
compression out of any tool but Cabarc.
I am trying to create a bootable Dos disk which will contain all of Dos
V6.22 with network support and some usefull utilities or as much as I can
fit on one disk. I am trying to keep away from having to use one bootable
disk and one disk formatted to 1.72mb for the rest. Fitting it all on one
disk or close would be great.
Anybody know of a program that will allow you to compress files smaller than
Cabarc then use the Dos Extract utility or a replacement that is close to
the same size to extract them under Dos V6.22 ???
TIA |

There are many better programs than Cabarc. I have linked to some
benchmarks at http://cs.fit.edu/~mmahoney/compression/ The exact answer
will depend on what you are compressing. Some compressors are specialized
for executables, images, audio, etc.

Compression of what? Photos? Data? Text? Lossy, Lossless?
The highest compression would be a lossy format set to the maximum
compression level, but I doubt you would like the results.
