The Siloam Pool
Where Jesus Cured the Blind Man
By Hershel Shanks
http://members.bib-arch.org/publication.asp?PubID=BSBA&Volume=31&Issue=5&ArticleID=2
The map locates the Pool of Siloam
in Jesus>s time on the little ridge known
as the City of David, the oldest inhabited
part of Jerusalem.
Yet, Dr. Thiering locates it at Qumran.
For brilliant interpretation see pages 83-87
in Chapter 4 The Seven Signs in Thiering>s ---
"1998 The Book that Jesus Wrote: John>s Gospel"
---
"To heal a blind man, as Jesus did in the sixth
Sign, might be considered the most credible of the
seven miracles, for the Therepeuts or Healers who
were part of the ascetic movement specialized in the
medical arts, using natural substances, although they
are not known to heal blindness.
He used his own spittle to moisten clay, put it
on the eyes of the blind man, and sent him to wash
in the pool of Siloam, the name of which was said
to mean 'sent out' (apestalmenos), from the verb
that gave 'apostles'). When the man came back he
was able to see.
There followed in a very lengthy and apparently
repetitive debate, in which the man took part, about
whether the healing was genuine. The man>s parents
were called to say that he had been born blind, and
hostility to Jesus was expressed: 'How can a man
who is a sinner do such signs?'
At the end of the debate the man said: 'From
eternity (aion) it has not been heard of that anyone
should open the eyes of a man born blind'. The
debate was far more prominent in the story than the
healing itself."

Gee, she should tell the locals and the Israel Antiquities Authority
that, Davey. They>re foolishly pointing people to a an ancient mikvah
southeast and outside the walls of Jerusalem>s Old City that was
excavated in 2005. As a matter of fact, maybe BT should be in charge
of the IAA and put things more in order re: archaeology in Israel -
whatcha think, Davey? |

The only thing I>m "feeling", Davey is the need to put your Thiering

This is the worst thing you could do. Time is
slipping away. Don>t lose your chance.
In any case, you are giving me the opportunity
to establish Thiering geography for the NT on
the merits. I plan to do so in subsequent
posts.
BTW you never told me whether you like
disco. |
