Healer dies after failing to treat a foot wound

17 November 2008
By Clare Semke
Health reporter

A healing therapist who refused to see a doctor died after developing
gangrene in his leg.
Russell Jenkins injured his left foot treading on an electrical plug
at his home.

The wound later became infected, but the 52-year-old shunned
conventional treatment, saying his 'inner being' told him not to go to
hospital.

Instead he tried treating it with honey, an ancient remedy for the
treatment of infected wounds.

But gangrene spread to his leg and he later died.

Mr Jenkins, who ran the Quiet Mind Centre from his home in Lorne Road,
Southsea, had injured his foot in December 2006.

He developed an inch-long ulcer, leading to gangrene which later
spread to his leg.

Mr Jenkins, a diabetic, sought advice from homeopath Susan Finn in
April 2007, who suggested he treat it with Manuka honey, but she said
he did not want to see a doctor and would not go to hospital.

He died in the early hours of April 17 from gangrene caused by a mixed
bacterial infection.

If the honey was the the only treatment he used,
oral and/or topical, he chose the wrong treatment.
Also, he was diabetc. Poor circulation in the feet,
foot ulcers, and gangrene are common to diabetics.

Read the book, 'Cupping A Corpse'.
There is an entire chapter on the subject
of self treatment of diabetic foot ulcers
and gangrene, and the results from a
poor treatment choice.

Erp...hold your horses there boy. If as the reports state he
was a diabetic, diabetic can reach a condition were the
best conventional treatment will fail. It would seem
he was in a bad way. The man may have as much
wanted out of it even by death rather than being a true
believer in some or another form of Alt medicine.

I do agree with you about Homeopathy.

Honey might be helpful in someone who is young,
healthy, and injured, say on the battle
field in some war between for example
Romans and the Parthians/Germanic tribes/Jews/Greeks etc.
Honey does have antiseptic properties.
Which may be why Mead causes such a hangover.
Mead the drink of my ancestors;-)

He injured himself in December, and died in April. Antibiotics taken
anytime during that period would have cleared up his problem in about
3 days.
