I have written the article and want to publish it. I work in the area of
high energy QCD. I see that there are many journals, which have
appropriate research area. How to choose the journal for publication? If
the article will be rejected, is it good practice to resubmit it into
another journal? |

If you have to ask, it>s probably not worth the trouble. Scientific
research is communicated via journals. You should be familiar with the
journals in your field, and thus know which would be appropriate. If
you are not familiar with them, how do you know that your results have
not been obtained by someone else?

It depends on the reason for the rejection. |

Yes, I know. There are few journals, in which relevant artices are
published. To be more specific: Phys. Rev., Nucl. Rev., JHEP, Phys. Lett.
and so on.

Usually, in a narrow scientific area after some years of work, a people
knows 'state of art'. |

Who is referee?
Do he get money for work or he is a volunteer? |

Normally, referees are people who have written papers on similar topics
for the journal in question and/or similar journals. In my experience,
they have all been volunteers (usually the editor of the journal will
ask someone he thinks is appropriate to be referee), though perhaps some
journals have paid referees. Sometimes the referee chooses to remain
anonymous, but not always. Some journals encourage referees to remain
anonymous, some do the opposite. |
