Hi,
I need some help, because I cannot find any good references on the
net, or in the boks I have.

I would like to experiment with pulsed neo-magnets (in particular
with the south pole) for food preservation. I read that food does not
spoil so quickly under the influence of the south pole of a magnet.

Here are my doubts:
-can I find large square magnets, which have the opposite poles
separated by thickness?
-if I have the poles separated by thickness, will I have a low level
of magnetism? Does the strength of magnetism go together with
thickness? (I need to get the best strength I can)
-can I lay an array of square magnets to obtain bigger south pole
surfaces? (like a sort of south pole magnetic bed)
-how to I pulse the permanent magnet to avoid demagnetization or
shortening the life of the magnet? This is the thing where I really
found no documentation at all.

It would be good if somebody also knows about any sites/tutorials
that explain magnets and pulsing magnets construction.

[[Mod. note -- Physics Today magazine puts out a "Buyer>s Guide"
which lists many many companies selling physics equipment. See

If you could post a reference to this claim we might be able to better
advise you.

This is is sci.physics.research, so discussions of how to generate
various sorts of magnetic fields are probably appropriate. However,
discussions of the biological effects of magnetic fields are at best
on the edge of relevance here, and should probably be accompanied by
some *physics* content.

Here, they just use a permanent magnet. I would like to use a pulsed
magnetic wave, though. And the magnet should be big enough to
experiment with something much bigger.

I read an article somewhere that half wave impulses have some
sterilization properties. So, I would like to combine the two effects
and see what>s the difference. Teorically, the magnetic wave should go
from the natural magnetic level of the neo-magnet, to something
stronger attained by electricity. I should not invert the polarity of
the magnet.

I need some good documentation and lot of hints to accomplish this.

Thank you!

Secure permanent magnets centripetally balanced on the rim of a wheel
and spin it past the target. Dipole field varies as 1/r^3. Stick the
sample within the stator winding of an AC electric motor.

Six months in the lab will save you an afternoon in the library.

First thing - replicate the existing experiment to make sure the effect
is real. Have you done that?
