Here is another comparison of psychology to religion. Psychology and
religion earn a profit by giving people what they want. Some people
want to believe their souls are saved and give preechers money to
guarantee it, and other people want to believe their minds are clean
and give psychologists money in an attempt to achieve it.
Some people even prefer drugs to achieve their happiness, and it is
interesting to note that psychology typically disapproves of chemical
happiness because it competes with expensive psychotherapy, but drugs
are okay when that>s what the patient wants, as long as it is one of
the drugs the psychologist/psychiatrist gets paid to promote. If
pills are what the client wants, pills are what the client gets, if
there is no other way to convince him of the value of repeated $500
therapy sessions as opposed to $5 Paxil tablets. And some clients are
so rich and bored and enjoy popping pills as well as paying people
$500 an hour to listen to them yak about their empty lives, then the
psychologist happily gives them what they want.
The customer is always right, and I>m willing to bet there>s nobody
here who can testify that a psychologist they were voluntarily paying
their hard-earned money to gave them a diagnosis they objected to.
They may have been diagnosed with various disorders by psychologists
hired by their parents or the state, because that is what the paying
parties wanted to hear. You may still suffer from a legitimate
disorder (real insanity didn>t disappear once psychologists began
diagnosing normal human behaviors and beliefs as insane) and truly
want the unpleasant diagnosis, but in such cases the psychologist>s
diagnosis is simply a coincidence because it was based solely on
your willingness to pay and your symptoms just happened to match a
few on the astrological charts (err..."DSM-IV") he consulted. |

so christianity is like a cheap form of crack, if you had to find
an analogy in the drug world. and islam is like crystal meth. and
transcendental meditation would be like mushrooms.
