Damson or Bullace bush

Description---A tall shrub, sometimes developing into a small tree about
15
feet high. Resembles the Blackthorn or Sloe (Prunus spinosa), but is
less
thorny and has straight, not crooked branches, covered by brown, not
black
bark, only a few of the old ones terminating in spines, the younger ones
downy. It has also larger leaves than the Blackthorn, downy underneath,
alternate, finely-toothed, on short, downy foot-stalks, and flowers,
white
like those of the Blackthorn, but larger, with broader petals, borne in
less
crowded clusters and not on the naked branches, but expanding just after
the
leaves have begun to unfold.

A bullace isn>t a damson.

A bullace is a more primitive form of the fruit/tree, something between a
sloe and a damson.

You can eat a damson raw, you can>t eat a bullace raw.

OK, I>m really new here - but what>s a hosepipe?

hmm, another British / American English confusion, I suppose... (I have
already learned here that maize/corn has to be used with care, but I
didn>t know that hosepipes and damsons are also critical ;-)

hosepipe I thought was the hose you use in the garden to water your
plants or chickens with ;-)

You should see them come down like ripe
damsons ;-)

and what are ripe damsons?
peggy

damsons are similar to plums/prunes. What word do you use?

Nuele (D)

hosepipe = watering hose or just hose..........[/quote]

damsons = plums prunes are dried and yucky:)

I love the things I learn on newsgroups
