For those who like to use the symbolic toolbox in Matlab, (which uses
Maple), might be interested in knowing that Matlab 2008b now includes MuPad
as well as part of this toolbox.

Here is a screen shot running the 'mupad' command in Matlab 2008b (just
released).

This command will brings up a new mupad notebook where one can enter
symbolic mathematics commands

This is the consequence of the following announcement:

http://www.adeptscience.com/pressroom/article/288

where is announced that Maple engine will no longer be sold by
Mathworks (Matlab) in the Symbolic Math Toolbox.

I may imagine that Maple wanted instead that people pay the full
Maple license instead of making a deal with Mathworks?
Then Mathworks would find it attractive to propose a possibly cheaper
competitive symbolic engine integrated within Matlab.
MuPad is a good substitute because its commercial future seems
uncertain and its notations are close to Maple ones.
