Web search giant Google is funding new green technology to curb the
burning of fossil fuels in US power plants and reduce the use of oil
petroleum in cars by 40 percent.

The Google project is part of its philanthropic arm Google.org that
involves backing start-ups for designing wind, solar and geothermal
technologies to replace coal and oil fuels.

Chief Executive Eric Schmidt cited parallels between the energy
challenge and the credit crisis.

"That is an unconscionable failure of system design. It is
inconceivable to me that the sum of the financial industry would have
created that as a possible outcome."

"There is an equivalent scale problem in energy," Schmidt told
reporters in San Francisco. "I>m a computer scientist and computer
scientists love scale problems. We like scale and replication and
leverage in a technical way."

Google has identified $5 million in building efficiency investments
that, along with new standards for computers, could cut power
consumption by the equivalent of 10 to 20 coal-fired plants by 2010.
The energy plan also calls for stricter building codes, a commitment
to wind and solar tax credits and a price on carbon through cap-and-
trade or tax.

Google has also partnered with General Electric Co to speed up
development of grid technology and wants more smart meters and real-
time pricing to let people see how much energy they use and what it
costs them.

In 2006 Google converted 300,000 shares into about $90 million to set
up Google.org, which is a small percentage of Google>s $4 billion-plus
2007 profit.

ah, the wrath of Google!

The googles must be thinking along the lines.....

"O noes! The US users are not clicking enough advertisements, and they
are not buying enough products when they click. Lets take the money
out of the federal tax funds.

Warsington seems to use it for nothing but mass murder.

This is going to be one Marchall comedy.
