PHILADELPHIA -- A woman said she was swarmed by a group of young
people who kicked her to the ground and robbed her during a
frightening underground attack in Center City.
The Wednesday night incident is startling, particularly because it
occurred one week after a SEPTA concourse confrontation at 13th and
Market streets left 36-year-old Sean Conroy dead, NBC 10>s Mike Strug
reported.
The medical examiner said blunt trauma that induced an asthma attack
resulted in Conroy>s death last week.
In Wednesday>s alleged attack, a woman said she got off a bus at 13th
Street and walked underground to Eighth and Market streets at about 8
p.m. Police said she traveled a route used by thousands of commuters
every day, along SEPTA concourses and through the Gallery at Market
East.
"I>m not going to be a victim," said the 23-year-old victim, who
identified herself as Tyesha. "I>m not going to be scared to walk out
my front door. I>m not going to be scared to go into my city and shop.
I am not going to be scared to make moves simply because children are
out running wild."
The woman told police she then saw about a dozen young people,
including males and females. The woman said someone said "excuse me"
as she walked by, words were exchanged and suddenly she was kicked to
the ground by a male, punched by a female and kicked in the face by a
female before the rest of the group jumped in.

"Somebody ran up and actually kicked me in my back," Tyesha said.
"After this happened, I fell to the ground. I had lost a tooth on the
left side of my mouth, someone pulled me by the back of my head, I was
kicked in my face by both male and female (attackers)."
The woman said her wallet was taken along with a debit card and other
items worth a total of $175 before the teens ran off.
The woman then ran to Eighth and Market and asked for help from a
SEPTA cashier, who called police.
SEPTA police then stopped the train at the Fairmount subway station on
the Broad-Ridge spur, where the woman was able to identify five of her
attackers, police said.
Police said arrested were: a 16-year-old girl; a 17-year-old boy;
Stanley Poland, 19, of the 1200 block of West Firth Street; Christine
Wearry, 19, of the 2500 block of North 12th Street; and Tamira
Sinkler, 20, of the 2400 block of North 10th Street.
They have been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, criminal
conspiracy and related counts.
The woman suffered a lost tooth, a cut on the inside of her lip as
well as bruises to her forehead and left cheek. She was treated at
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
The incident occurred in the concourse of the Gallery at Market East
shopping mall, Strug reported.
Police said they are continuing to investigate.
Tyesha said she hopes the arrests send a message.
"If we make examples out of the ones we are able to apprehend, then I
feel like that will send a message to the rest of them," Tyesha said.
"Like, 'Look, we>re not playing -- you’re not getting away with this.
You took my life, you could have taken another. Enough is enough -- it
stops here."
UPDATE: http://www.kyw1060.com/pages/1945508.php?
A week after the murder of a Starbucks manager on a center city subway
platform, it>s another case of an underground attack just a few blocks
away.
This one happened in the Gallery, near a t-shirt kiosk, on Wednesday
night around 8pm.
Police say a 24-year-old woman was robbed and beaten by as many as a
dozen teenagers and young adults. The victim was knocked to the floor
and suffered a broken tooth.
SEPTA spokesman Richard Maloney says the victim ran to the Broad
Street subway spur for help:
"She fled from the Gallery into the 8th Street station of the Broad
Street Subway, where she reported the incident to the cashier. By
coincidence, the five thugs came out of the Gallery, ran onto a Broad
Street subway train. The cashier called SEPTA police, who effected an
arrest at the Fairmount station."
Five people -- three females and two males -- face charges of robbery
and assault. The identities of two minors were not revealed. The other
three were identified by police as (top to bottom) Stanley Poland,
Tamira Sinkler, and Christine Wearry.
The attack comes a week after the murder of Starbucks manager Sean
Conroy, who police say died after he was beaten by a group of
teenagers in the subway concourse at 13th and Market Streets

"Throughout 6,000 years of recorded history, the
pure-blooded African Negro has invented nothing.
Not a written language, weaved cloth, a calendar,
a plow, a road, a bridge, a railway, a ship, a
system of measurement, or even the wheel.
He is not known to have ever cultivated a single
crop or domesticated a single animal for his own
use. For shelter, he never progressed beyond the
common mud hut, the construction of which a beaver
or muskrat is capable."

Rape is a way of life for Darfur>s women. Sudan>s Darfur
crisis has exploded on many fronts -- violence, hunger,
displacement and looting -- but United Nations peacekeepers
say the biggest issue now affecting the region is the
systematic rape of women and children. The Sudanese
government, however, insists there is no problem:
