PHILADELPHIA -- Police said the same stolen gun was used in Monday’s
shootout with police and the shooting death of a woman earlier that
morning.
Police said the trail of crimes began with the death of Monica Wilson,
41, of Southwest Philadelphia.
She was shot and killed Monday morning.
The woman>s boyfriend, Richard Wilson, 59, quickly became a suspect,
authorities said.
Acting on a tip, police went to the neighborhood that afternoon and
Richard Wilson opened fire on them, authorities said.
Officers returned fire.
No officers were injured, but Richard Wilson was shot in the arm and
hip.
Police said the same stolen gun was used in both crimes.
Richard Wilson has been charged with four counts of attempted murder
on police officers.
Officers arrived around 2:30 p.m. and a confrontation ensued,
according to police.
"The male seemed out of control and was walking down the street with a
firearm," said Lt. Frank Vanore of the Philadelphia Police.
Police said the officers shot the suspect after he opened fire on
them. The suspect shot through the back window of a patrol car,
according to police.
One officer returned fire through the windshield of her police car,
according to police.
The suspect is in stable condition at Hospital at University of
Pennsylvania with gunshot wounds to the hip and arm.
Police said the suspect had served 30 years in prison for murder, but
they have not been able to determine whether he was the man they were
seeking.
No charges have been filed yet in connection with the death of Monica
Wilson.
Richard Wilson served nearly 30 years in prison for murder and was
released in the last five years, authorities said.
