The Rod Speed Virus has become quite ubiquitous and its purpose is to
destroy any rational, legitimate, or honest debate among consenting
adults. The virus attacks serious discussions simply inserting offhand
disagreement at paragraph breaks. Every now and then a "real" person
hiding behind the nym of Rob Speed enters the fray and puts some extended
verbiage in place to make the virus seem to be a real person. The proper
actions to deal with the virus are to NEVER respond to it and to closely
edit that to which you do respond (responses of others) so as to trim the
propagation of the virus. It may be necessary to move the discussion to a
new, as yet, un-invaded thread.
Thanks Trucker, I gladly comply with that.
He seems to be a pest across many newsgroups, not just here.
This quote from a .au newsgroup user sums it up nicely :
"He uses the same lines over and over, and will often insult people for no reason. All the attention paid to this moron is what
encourages him to continue being a moron! He>s the sole reason that newsgroups should be moderated..."
I kind of felt bad, since he was the first one I ever called a "dick-head and a retard" because of his random empty statements and
evasive answers without contents, and since he looses context all the time. But not any more. I think "dick-head and a retard" is
right on target.

Just as the efficient solar cells funnel the rays with mirrors
towards the collectors , so we should be able to funnel wind towards
the windmills.
What about my flying matteresses ? If they could be stiff
enough and be held at 45 degree angles , they could funnel wind
towards the rotating blades.
So they could be brought and held down when its still , and
when its windy , these mattresses containing a partial vacuum would
fly up the 100 meters to funnel the wind from any direction. |

Do either of you ever get ANYTHING right? John owns a electronics

What exactly is your problem?
My 'Problem' is the inability to put up with idiots, pretending they

It>s John>s business and website, not mine. I have no connection

having one of his business cards. I am now disabled, but I did a lot of
work that neither you, nor Bret will ever understand. It included high
voltage, high power RF, and military communications equipment. Do you
or Bret have anything you built in orbit? I do. Have you ever worked
with 5 MW EIRP UHF RF? I have. Have you ever designed & built a
commercial TV station from scratch? I have, including the cooling
system.
[/quote]
In the wonderful world of usenet, this kind of talk is pretty
meaningless. I don>t know if 'did a lot of work' means you did
synthetic design, looked up stuff in tables, or were the guy who put
the last little shiny screws in on the case of that orbital package.
And 'design and build' a tv station is pretty much like what tons of
amateur radio operators have done.
My preference is to 'judge' what people are capable of by having a
discussion about substance. I observe in all these posts one person
who even tried to point out what was wrong with Bret>s design (besides
me), so I can only assume that you guys are bluffing away just like
Bret does.
As for whether what he suggests is a 'design', yes it obviously is.
There>s even the hint of an interesting concept there, which is why it
would be nice to hear from someone more familiar with the details of
'fluidizable' materials.

It is hard to find statistics on the mortgage crisis, so I>m making an
estimate. There are about 100 million households in the USA, assuming
10% are in default or foreclosure, which I think is a high estimate,
subtracting rentals from the 100 million (if you can refute me from a
credible authority, I would love to be corrected). Ten million divided
into 700 billion works out to $700,000 per distressed property, which
should on the average buy out each property twice. What is happening
to the rest? I think this is a massive raid on the US treasury, with a
threat of a Great Depression if we don>t pay up, and that isn>t even
counting AIG, Countrywide, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Bear Stearns.
Wall Street is stealing more than the Huns that raided the Roman
Empire, with similar results. And this is not the end. Congress forked
over 25 Billion to the automakers, the airlines are next, and who
then? Ben and Jerries? We are looking at a new Dark Ages.
$700 billion / 10 million = $70,000.
But it seems that there IS something fishy going on.
First of all, housing prices are now back to where they were 3 years
ago, so only sub-prime mortgages closed in the last 3 years would be in
'debt' at this point.
The peak of home prices was some 20% higher then where they are now,
and average US home was around $300,000 at the peak (if I recall
correctly), so we talking about maximum debt of about 20%of $300,000 is
$60,000. This number is definitely on the high side, since it assumes
that everyone bought at the peak of the housing prices (in 2006). The
actual average debt will thus be lower than that, probably around
$30,000.
Second, does anyone know how many of these sub-prime mortgages was
issued ? And what was the total dollar amount ? In 2007, 'only' 1.7
million homes were up for forclosure. In 2006, is was in the range of
400,000. So we are talking about (so far) at most about 2 million
properties.
So it seems that 'so far', there cannot be much more than about $60
billion in debts.
It seems to me that even from that amount, many people will not want to
go to bankruptcy, and will find ways to actuall pay off at least a part
of this debt.
So the 'bad debt' must be even lower...
So what is going on with this $800 billion ?
I>m confused.
Rob
You guys assume this is all about the houses. That is your fundamental
