Now I>m not one to grumble but really, this is a bit much.

It>s the middle of bleedin' winter here. A bit past the winter solstice
but not past the coldest part of the year. Evidently it>s because of the
slow response of the ocean temperature that the weather is slow to cool
down for winter and slow to warm up in spring. Not the point. What is
annoying me is that the two pullets who have been laying very nicely,
including the one with enough Araucana in her family tree to produce
green eggs, have gone broody. She was first and I put her in the
Naughty Girls' box which doubles as the Little Chicks and Mum house.
When the second one started sitting tight and saying "Book" I tried to
put her in there but they both cannoned out and raced to the ramp to
their own house - ha ha, door was shut, gotcha!

So in they went with the black and white handsome rooster where they
spend the day giving his deep litter a really good scratch-over.
Neither he nor his Dad seems to be particularly keen on indoor sex. His
Dad isn>t even all that motivated out in the big adventure playground,
but let him and his ladies out to enjoy the lawn and orchard and shrubs
- everything except the vege garden - and it>s a whole alfresco
Lustarama in technicolour complete with chase scenes, vertical
take-offs, indignation and triumph and the laff-out-loud bits where a
chook absorbed in the enjoyment of peck your own fresh organic greens
hardly has time to register that she>s having Surprise Sex before it>s
all over.

So, back to the pesky pullets, they seem happy enough in with the Chief
in the Feather Cloak. And what>s more I haven>t heard a "Book" off
either of them all day.

Broody at this time of the year. Really, how absurd!

Oh gosh... thank you for the laugh!

The first post I>ve read on this newsgroup in months (due to ISP and
computer problems) and you make me glad to be back.
