We have two 3 acre pastures for our 3 horses. We want to get
spraying equipment so that we can spray 24D or Grazon to keep the
weeds down. We don>t have a tractor or a 4 wheeler so I have looked
into some kind of rig I can get to go in my pickup. I found a web
site advertising AG Spray Equipment, Inc. I can get a 25 gallon tank
and a receiver hitch attachment that has a single nozzle that sprays
up to 18 feet. That will meet our needs quite well.

Is the AG Spray equipment good quality? If not what would you
recommend? Do you think this kind of a settup will serve our needs?
If not, what would you recommend we get? Thanks for any help

Are you in the U.S.? If so you might look at places like Tractor
Supply Inc. There are some small pull type sprayers that might work.

There isn>t any reason you couldn>t put an ATV sprayer in the back
of your pickup. We just put one on the hood of our riding lawn mower
at work.
It>s just a guess but I>d wager the pumps and such are made by the
same companies no matter what the brand name of the sprayer is.

You got me here, why do you want to keep weeds down if you have horses
grazing on that area?

Just a probably dumb and ignorant question, but it just puzzles me :)

Horses are just about the worst of the domestic grazing animals when
it comes to turning a productive pasture into weed heaven! You can
always pick a horse paddock by the prolific weed growth with bugger
all grass left in it!

I think it>s because horses are not ruminants, so they have to eat
much more grass than cows, for example, in order to get the same
amount of energy in their diet -- and they>re typically held in
smaller paddocks than cattle too, which usually makes it worse.

They also seem to eat grasses down a bit lower than cows can do, so
that slows the recovery from grazing at best and leads to death of the
grass at worst.

On top of that, they avoid eating many (most?) weed species!

Cheers, Phred.
