[quote]Can anyone help me with the following query?
I am drawing up a table to list common pronunciation variations of
different accents. For some items I want to indicate that a vowel x
in RP is produced in another accent somewhere on a continuum between
vowel y and vowel z.
Is there some way of transcribing this? I am looking to write it
something like:
[vowel x] {arrow?} [vowel y] {??} [vowel z]
1) Would an arrow be an appropriate symbol to use to indicate the
change between RP and the realisation in the accent in question?
2) What symbol would be appropriate where I have put {??} i.e. between
the other two vowels?
