When I went to collect eggs earlier I noticed the nest box packed full of
straw! Strange I thought, now how did that happen. So I proceeded to drag
some of it out to make a flatter area for the hens to squat in, but then I
noticed a brown rounded prickly thing in amongst the straw - it was a
hedgehog! It must have crawled in there during the day and made himself at
home - making himself comfortable for a Winter sleep in I reckon.
Making sure there was a padding of straw around him I packed him, with lots
of extra straw, into one of my large square plastic plant pots. I carried
the box to another part of the garden and stashed it on its side in amongst
a bed of tightly knit evergreen shrubs. Hopefully he>ll stay there all warm
cosy until next Spring.
What a story tho! I wonder what the hens must have thought lol

LOVELY
I had a scare with one last year.
A customer had been mooching around the shop while I was faffing with plants
just outside.
They came out and said thank you, and then quietly said -- I think there was
something moving in one of your bags on the floor. Then left.
OKAY --- what on earth ?
Go into shop and look for bags on the floor
AH Ha - my small bags of Jacob fleece for felting,
Nothing moving that I can see.
pick each one up one, and -- ah ha -- one is a bit heavier than should be !
chicken out at this point.
GO and get hubby!
Explain and suggest he gets box and carefully put bag into same - go down
the yard and explore more there.
No idea what is in there, but did not want it to be in a trapped situation.
So he does, and comes back up with a cute ickle hedgepig.
!!!!
bless him, he must have trundled in the evening before which had been warm
and we had been sorting stuff out in the shop after closing and left the
door open while we shut stock up.
He had found himself an open bag of JAcob wool and got himself very comfie
thank you.
We put him in the wood and wool store and fed him for a while but it was
still very early in the season, so he went and found himself another place
after a bit, at least he had a good feed on him.
