Hi,

this might seem like a dumb and unrelated question but.....

there>s an old tree stump down by the river where I live... It>s been
hollowed out and had a window cut in it near the base (it actually has three
windows in it). It has a doorway opening directly onto the river. I was
wondering if this might be the old home of a giant beaver... There>s what
appears to be a step made out of stones directly to the river.....

Are you sure this has something to do with ANTHROpology? ANTHRO means
man, so I can vouch for the question being definitely unrelated. The
dumb part I>ll leave for you to decide. (could it be a were-beaver
den?)

Well, I didn>t know where else to post it. There was a such thing as a giant
beaver (now extinct) in North America. Regular beavers are reguarded as the
smartest rodents around. They build dens, dams, and cut trees down. I know
this is a stretch but I couldn>t see who else who build a place like that.
It was just a thought, that a giant beaver perhaps being several times
smarter.... Interestingly, there is a small island in the middle of the
river across from this tree. Could it be an old beaver>s den ? Upstream
about a 1/2 mile is dam..... I wonder if people who later settled in the
area found an existing dam....
