Gavin Menzies sets sights on Leonardo da Vinci
By Tim Castle Tue Jul 29, 3:23 AM ET
LONDON (Reuters) - Leonardo da Vinci>s drawings of machines are
uncannily similar to Chinese originals and were undoubtedly derived
from them, a British amateur historian says in a newly-published book.

Gavin Menzies sparked headlines across the globe in 2002 with the
claim that Chinese sailors reached America 70 years before Christopher
Columbus.
Now he says a Chinese fleet brought encyclopedias of technology
undiscovered by the West to Italy in 1434, laying the foundation for
the engineering marvels such as flying machines later drawn by Italian
polymath Leonardo.

Just caught sight of this in a bookshop yesterday, and looked at it
long enough to see that Menzies repeats, apparently in seriousness,
the claim by a Croatian fantasist that a 16th century Ragusan, Vice
Bune, not only explored most of Melanesia but named half the islands
after places in the Adriatic. This wretch has polluted innumerable
"reference" sites with this nonsense, which seems remarkably difficult
to get rid of once it>s there.

Does anyone really pay attention to this proven fraud and his
'The Chinese Did Everything' claims?
The facts of Chinese technological superiority for much of the
las couple of thousand years are stunning enough. Is Menzies
trying to make a buck here, or does he have some other
agenda--such as trying to shore up his good name by putting more
brown and smelly spackle on that crumbling edifice? |

As I have several times said in the past, in my opinion Menzies is a
rogue and a liar.
I for one appreciate your bringing this to my attention, and to
these ngs. I think he deserves being roundly ignored; but unless
folks who know better tell the truth about him, some innocents
may read about his latest travesty and think he may be on to
something.
It is more likely that people so innocent are ineducable.
