Depsite giving my attacked Runner Duck a month to get better, it doent
appear that she will be getting better.
She can hardly walk, so just sits in one place nearly all day.
She preens and eats/drinks, but otherwise just sits there.

I>m not quite sure on whether she is suffering, or just happy to be
alive sitting there.
Either way, she definitely has lost weight, and doesnt looked to have
improved at all over the last 2 weeks, the first 2 weeks she showed a
lot of improvement, but now has stayed at that level, and possibly gone
backward a little bit this week.

So, I>ll give her a bit more time, but heaven is knocking on her door.
Back to the query, the vet says they can give her an injection, at a
cost, or,he says, I can put a sock over her head, and hit her with a big
hammer on the head, which will be an instant death.

Any thoughts on what is best - considering it is a 20 minute drive to
the vets, so that will not be stress free.

Hi,Allan,Hal[/quote]
I put kill most of my sick or very old poultry that have given up the
ghost by laying the bird on the ground with the neck streched out put an
old pot/sauce pan on the neck (the head is under the pot )_ and stand
on the pot . The weight of me crushes the neck and its done.
If you put the pot to close to the head it is not nice. I wait till the
bird to stop flaping and dispose of the body . I have found this is not
bloody and it is fast.
Alll the best

Are you going to eat it?

If not offer it around and I>m sure it won>t be hard to find someone
to take it off your hands and do the deed to put it on their table

Maybe trade it for a few beers at the pub

yum-yum

cheers
